Qld: State road toll reaches 10
BRISBANE, Dec 30 AAP - A 21-year-old woman has been killed in a single vehicle accident
near Marlborough in central Queensland, taking the state's Christmas-New Year road toll
to 10.
The female driver died after her car failed to negotiate a bend on the Bruce Highway
and rolled about 40km north of Marlborough at 11.05am (AEST) today.
A 21-year-old male passenger was treated at the scene by an off-duty ambulance officer
before being taken to the Rockhampton Base Hospital.
Police said his injuries are not life threatening.
Accident Investigation Squad officers are examining the crash site.
At 10, Queensland's road toll is the highest in Australia after the first week of the
15-day Christmas-New Year holiday period.
For the entire year, the state's road toll is 325.
The national toll for the holiday period is 32.
WA's holiday road toll total stands at five after two fatal car accidents last night.
Victoria's road toll rose to seven after a woman died in hospital yesterday as a result
of a Boxing Day car accident.
There have been five fatalities in New South Wales, three in South Australia and two in Tasmania.
The ACT and the Northern Territory have not recorded any fatalities.
