Robert Osann Reports Smart Phone Patent Auction.

Robert Osann, an Intellectual Property consultant, inventor, and veteran of five venture-funded startups, announced the auction of his smart phone video messaging patent portfolio at the ICAP Ocean Tomo Spring 2011 Live IP Auction on March 31 at Capitale in New York City.

According to a release, the IP describes systems and methods for video and image messaging using mobile smart phones where still images and/or video clips are injected into the voice stream creating a video call. When a receiving party is not available to take a video call, this combined stream of voice and image information is stored in a manner similar to voicemail. Real-time video-voice conversations may also be recorded to document a video-voice conversation or because a party is not able to view the images in real-time. While the sending party will normally use a smart phone with digital camera, the receiving party may view video-voicemail images on a variety of devices including a mobile smart phone or alternately a conventional PC or laptop connected to the Internet providing a 10x or greater resolution experience.

"Smart Phones today have 5 Megapixel cameras, yet typically display up to a 640x480 video resolution totaling only 307K pixels," said Osann. "The Droid Pro can capture 720P video, but not display it. Even the iPhone 4 can capture 1280x720 Motion JPG video, but again not display it. To fully benefit from the still image and video capture capability of modern Smart Phones, it requires display on the high-resolution monitor of a PC or laptop. The Video-Voicemail IP supports this capability."

"For friends and families," said Dean Becker, ICAP Ocean Tomo CEO, "the video-voicemail paradigm provides an easy way to communicate visually while maintaining a paradigm that is familiar - basically that of phone calls and voicemails. For business and construction workgroups, video-voice conversations increase efficiency and prevent wasted time and expense."

Entitled "Video-Voicemail Solution for Wireless Communication Devices," the original application was filed on March 22, 2002 and initially issued in 2006 as US Patent No 7,092,735.

The live auction will be held Thursday, March 31ST beginning at 1 PM. There will be two preliminary events - A "Technology at The Tipping Point" Reception and Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street on Wednesday night, and a networking lunch at Capitale on Thursday at 11:30 AM before the auction.
